Samsung will launch smartphone with curved display in October
“We plan to introduce a smartphone with a curved display in South Korea in October,” – D.J Lee
Samsung’s mobile business head of strategic marketing D.J. Lee said on Wednesday, during launch event of the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Gear which was happen in Seoul.
Back in CES in January, Samsung revealed some of early prototypes of devices packed with curved display technology, and one of them was 5.5-inch smartphone with codename “Youm”. The prototype’s screen stretched to the outer edges of the device and was able to display notifications along the side, although the handheld itself wasn’t flexible – yet.
Technology gigants are at the start of journey to bring curved displays to the market, and at the start of wearable gadgets era, and these who gets its foot first on that field, will have opportunity to radically change the high-end devices market. Just to remind you, curved displays are already commercially available in large-screen televisions produced by Samsung and it’s rival company LG. The run now is to shring it to the wearable size and release it to us – technology addicted people.
