Rumour: Samsung Reportedly Planning Windows Phone Version of Galaxy S III

Android fans have probably been keeping an eye on most of the rumors surrounding Samsung’s upcoming announcement of the Galaxy S III, but if your smartphone tastes lean in the direction of a competing platform, it likely hasn’t been of paramount interest to you. A rumor we’re just hearing suggests that Windows Phone followers actually might have good reason for paying attention to the GS3, with the claim that Samsung is planning to release something nearly identical for Windows Phone 8 in the fall.

This WP8 handset wouldn’t be a part-for-part copy of the GS3, but would supposedly feature a number of shared components. Processor specs are a little up-in-the-air at the moment (and could possibly include both dual- and quad-core options), but according to these reports the phone would have a 4.7-inch HD display, an LTE modem, NFC support, and a twelve-megapixel main camera with two-megapixel front-facer. In addition to sharing hardware with the GS3, this WP8 model would also resemble the GS3 from a design standpoint.

Beyond just the phone’s hardware, these rumors attempt to address Samsung’s launch plans for the device. It could arrive as the Samsung Focus S II sometime in October, and be available on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint (with its new LTE service). That’s a pretty ambitious-sounding launch, if true, and this could easily make for one of the more sought-after phones in the first wave of WP8 hardware.
