[PETITION] Samsung mobile: Help third party development achieve full potential of purchased devices
Samsung Mobile releases many mobile devices worldwide, yet has an unfortunate reputation for being somewhat slow to update devices to the latest firmware version. This leaves users open to security vulnerabilities, which is detrimental to the experience of paying users.
We, the undersigned, petition Samsung Mobile to release as much as is possible to third party developers (in particular, driver libraries and source headers) in order to allow users to obtain full functionality of the device they have paid for, and further the principles of free open source software (FOSS).
Lets show Samsung how many of their customers are in fact using their phones and that they should care more about ones that CAN NOT AFFORD a new phone every year yet once two or three years they get new one via a contract with their operator. Yet now Samsung basically drops the support after 18 months after shipping the phone. That means few months of support for such customers, what i guess is not building brand loyalty – so should be as important for Samsung as selling new devices. Releasing the mentioned sources would help significantly those developers still supporting ‘legacy’ devices.
