[NEWS] Samsung partners with FeliCa Network to develop NFC chips

Samsung has announced partnership with FeliCa Networks to develop Near Field Communication (NFC) chips. Samsung says the collaboration with FeliCa Networks will help them to support full adoption of NFC-based mobile wallet in Japan.

Under the partnership, Samsung will develop NFC-SAM (Secure Application Module) chips with advanced security capabilities and an NFC controller compliant with international standard ISO/IEC 14443/18092 whereas FeliCa will provide key technologies to Samsung. Moreover, the NFC-SAM chips will be compatible with FeliCa (NFC-F) readers and Osaifu-Keitai (mobile wallet) phones.

FeliCa Networks, Inc. designs, develops, manufactures, and sells IC chips used in mobile phones. It offers Mobile FeliCa IC chip that is used in various applications, such as e-wallet, credit card, transportation tickets, cash card, loyalty point card, and movie tickets. The company also provides FeliCa Networks, a platform that offers service providers with various services and data read/write transactions to FeliCa chip with wireless network. In addition, it offers FeliCa Cyber System software for secured communication with wireless network and FeliCa server system for encrypted key management. FeliCa Networks, Inc. also offers manufacturing and sales licenses to chip vendors. The company was founded in 2004 and is based in Tokyo, Japan. FeliCa Networks, Inc. operates as a subsidiary of Sony Corporation.
